Communication Skills
Before knowing the *importance of Communication Skills* let's throw light on what Communication Skills are.
Communication is the exchange of ideas, emotions, opinions or instructions from one person to another person in a way that is understandable to them.
Communication Skills include:
- Communicating in a way that others can grasp.
- Using relevant words to explain and clarify thoughts and ideas.
- Listening to others when they speak.
- Respecting others' point of view.
- Asking questions for better involvement and engagement.
But every communication necessarily doesn't mean effective communication and that is where people lack.
After putting our views we feel that we have communicated effectively but it is not so.
It is said that 'NOTHING IS SO SIMPLE THAT IT CANNOT BE MISUNDERSTOOD'
There are many points that make communication effective and we need to take care of these things while communicating. Most important communication skills are:
*Listening*
Good communication skills starts with listening.
Listening is not just about hearing what has been said but about grasping and interpreting things communicated. Without listening there is no communication.
Stephen R. conveys ' DON'T LISTEN TO REPLY, BUT RATHER TO UNDERSTAND.'
*CONFIDENCE:*
Be confident while you speak.
People shouldn't believe in what you're speaking but they should believe that you believe in what you are speaking.
Because while speaking if you yourself aren't confident enough you cannot convince your listeners.
**Clarity:*
Clarity is very important in communication. Your listeners should not need to say 'Please repeat I couldn't get you.'
Your way of Communication should be such as to convey the clear message to your listeners.
*Energy:*
You should be energetic while you communicate. Because if you are low while communicating, your communication won't look effective. No one wants to be in touch with the person who makes others feel low.
This is your energy which builds interest in your listeners to listen to you. So make sure you are energetic while you speak.
*Non verbal communication:*
To connect with the listeners in a better way, the communicator must involve the non verbal means of communication too for the better understanding of the listeners. These nonverbal means of communication include gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, postures etc.
*Providing Feedback:*
Effective communication is a two way process. After completing one's talk a person must take as well as give feedback to bring forward the other person's perspective too.
So these were a few things to make the communication effective. We need to take care of these simple skills while communicating to make our communication effective and understandable.
